Transport Consultation - Shields Road Pelaw Experimental Order 2020
Notice is hereby given that on the 29th July 2020 the Council made an experimental traffic order 'The Borough Council of Gateshead (Shields Road, Pelaw) Experimnetal Traffic Order 2020.
The Order comes into operation on 6th August 2020 on an experimental basis and it will be in force for a maximum period of 18 months and the effect of the Order will be to amend the Borough Council of Gateshead (Shields Road Pelaw) (Waiting Restriction) Order 2007 by suspending some existing parking restrictions as set out in the Order and introducing:
- No waiting at any time on the north side of Shields Road from a point 9.5 metres east of its centre line with Dukes Road in an easterly direction for 50 metres;
- A prohibition of loading Monday to Saturday between 06:00-18:00 on the north side of Shields Road from a point 9.5 metres of its centre line with Dukes Road in an easterly direction for 50metres.
- A disabled blue badge holders parking place on the east side of Dukes Street from a point 6 metres south of its junction with Shields Road in a northerly direction for 12 metres.
The Order includes a provision to enable the Council’s Service Director for Development, Transport and Public Protection (or their duly authorised officer) to modify or suspend any of the provisions within the Order, whilst it remains in force in accordance with Section 10(2) of the Act.
The Order comes into operation on 6th August 2020 on an experimental basis and it will be in force for a maximum period of 18 months.
The reason for proceeding by way of an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order is to enable the Council to prohibit parking and loading to create a safe area for pedestrians which is in line with the government guidance on maintaining social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
