Notice is hereby given that on the 22nd June 2022, the Council made The Borough Council of Gateshead (Cross Lane Dunston) Experimental Traffic Order 2022.

The Order will come into force on the 4th July 2022.  A copy of the sealed order and notice of making can be found below.

The effect of the Order will be to amend the Borough Council of Gateshead (Traffic Movements) (Consolidation Order) 2010 while the Order is in operation to:

  1. Introduce a prohibition of driving along Cross Lane, Dunston from the junction with Handy Drive Bus Lane extending in a southerly direction for a distance of 50 metres;

  4. Introduce a no left turn from A1114 Handy Drive into Cross Lane.

The Order includes a provision to enable the Council's Service Director Highways and Waste (or their duly authorised officer) to modify or suspend any of the provisions within the Order, whilst it remains in force in accordance with Section 10(2) of the 1984 Act. The Order comes into operation on the 4th July 2022 on an experimental basis and it will be in force for a maximum period of 18 months. The reason for proceeding by way of an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order is set out in the Statement of Reasons.

Full details are contained in the Order which together with a map showing the lengths of road affected and a statement of the Council's reasons for making the Order may be examined below.

The Council will be considering in due course whether the provisions of the Order should be continued in force indefinitely. Within a period of 6 months from 4th July 2022, any person may object to the making of such a permanent order. Any such objection must be in writing, stating the grounds on which it is made, and be sent to the Strategic Director of Corporate Services and Governance at the address above. Any comments in support of the Order are also invited during this period.

Any person who wishes to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the 1984 Act or that any of the requirements of the 1984 Act or of any relevant regulations made thereunder have not been complied with may, within 6 weeks from 22 June 2022, make an application for that purpose to the High Court.
