School Admission Arrangements for September 2020

Gateshead Council is consulting with parents, schools, diocesan bodies, Governors and local authorities on all aspects of the Council's admission arrangements and proposed changes to its school admission arrangements for September 2020 and beyond.

  • Secondary Schools and Academies Admission Policy 2020/21

Community and Voluntary Controlled Primary Schools Admission Policy 2020/21 (including Kibblesworth and Riverside Academies) - Further to a request from the Minister for Education, the Council is consulting on the inclusion of an additional oversubscription category, which is now category 2:

“Children who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.”

  • Brandling Primary School

Due to increased demand for the school, proposed housing development in the area and the need to refurbish part of the building, the school has recently been extended. This will enable the school to increase it’s admission limit from 27 to 30 for each year group.

  • St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Blaydon

Gateshead Local Authority is consulting with parents, schools, diocesan bodies, Governors, local authorities and others on behalf of the Governing Body of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Croftdale Road, Blaydon, Gateshead. NE21 4BG which is its own admission authority, on the changes they propose to their school admission arrangements from September 2020 and beyond.

The main changes to the policy are:

  • The inclusion of an additional category, which is now category 2:

"Catholic Children with a Certificate of Catholic Practice who are resident in the parishes of St Anne’s, Winlaton and St Joseph’s, Blaydon."

  • The inclusion of an additional note, now note 4, which defines the ‘Certificate of Catholic Practice’ and clarifies how these are issued.
