The current traffic management system flowing through Gateshead through to the Tyne Bridge North and South bound is not fit for purpose, and directly contradicts Gateshead MBC's policy to reduce emissions. The current system also costs more money in fuel and fares (in taxis) for road users, as well as the risk of a 'smog' developing around Central Gateshead, significantly increasing the health risk to residents, employees and shoppers. I suggest we re-open Askew Road to ALL traffic, in order to reduce congestion in the Town Centre by offering an alternative route to Newcastle and Bensham/Teams in the opposite direction.
