By Go North East and the Unite union failing to resolve the issues which have resulted in the withdrawal of a major part of Gateshead’s infrastructure, Gateshead council need to step in. The withdrawal of services around Gateshead is creating excessive traffic around the region and leaving a lot of residents with little means to get to work, appointments, school, college, shops. Allowing this to continue indefinitely is unacceptable. In October 2021 transport leaders approved the region's Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) at a meeting of the North East Joint Transport Committee. The BSIP is new £804 million bid to Government which transport leaders are confident would dramatically transform bus services across the North East and greatly improve the bus network for millions of passengers as well as helping the environment. By allowing this continuous withdrawal of services surely this is in breach of this agreement by both parties. I would call on the council to do all in their power to restore the service by any means necessary. This disruption cannot be allowed to continue indefinitely.
