School Admission Arrangements for September 2024

Gateshead Council is consulting with parents, schools, diocesan bodies, Governors and local authorities on all, aspects of the Councils admission arrangements and any proposed changes to school admission arrangements for September 2024 and beyond.

Whilst the council has no proposed changes for both primary and secondary admissions, the governing body of Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy is proposing the following change:

Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy

Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy is proposing to decrease the current Published Admission Number (PAN) for each year group from 254 to 240, reducing the school’s capacity in years 7 to 11 from 1,270 to 1,200, a reduction of 70 places across years 7 to 11. The capacity of the school’s Sixth Form is not affected by this proposal.

Whickham School

Whickham have added an additional category to their over subscription criteria. Category 5 - Children of a member of school staff who has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which application for admission to the school is made; and/or the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post at the school for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.

Please send any comments on the school proposals or proposed admission arrangements to Ian Stewart by Friday 16th December 2022:
